Tara, my experience has been that because a runner has such well developed leg muscles, they tend to use those leg muscles when performing their pilates exercises - when they should instead be using their powerhouse (core). As such, I have to refocus the typical runner/client to use their core muscles and not their leg muscles...

Thanks so much Karen for the response. I am a BASI student that's doing my research paper on Pilates and Runners. I am an avid runner, and I too think it's very important for runners to involve pilates into their regimen in order to be a more effective and healthier runner. It's a bummer that you are in Fort Lauderale (I'm in Los Angeles) because I would love to take some of your sessions that focus on runners! ;) Thanks again for your time. *Tara

Hi,
I too have looked for the article online on Google as well as in Amazon. It sounds like both you and I have trained long distance runners using Pilates. The article caught my attention because I've trained marathon runners as well as running coaches here at my studio. To support those clients, I posted that information for them to read, but it came from a blog from my fitness insurance company. I'll look and see what I can find out!!

Hi there,

Do you know how I can obtain a copy of the case study for "pilates training helps runners" - I can't seem to find the Current Sports Medical Reporter, 2006.

Thanks!

I am so proud of you guys for taking the big step into blogging. I know I push you hard to learn this stuff, but it is nothing you would not do to me if I was in the studio getting Pilatecized. :-)

Cheers to you, Karen and Kurt, to a wonderful 2010!
